October hosts a wide range of events and holidays. From Halloween to National Pizza Month, there seems to be something for everyone to talk about. One lesser known event happening in October is Blog Action Day. It’s your chance to lend a helping hand and your voice.
What is it?
Blog Action Day takes place on October 16th and is designated for bloggers all over the world to come together for this day to talk about one important issue. Past issues have focused on climate change, human rights and poverty. Each year a theme is decided and participants have the opportunity to speak up and help raise awareness.
This year’s theme?
This year’s theme is “Raise Your Voice.” Raise Your Voice is all about how to promote possible change and expose unjust actions. Many people always have something to say about an event or occurrence around the world, but often times their voices are muffled or tossed aside. Blog Action Day will give those who wish to speak out about an opportunity to not only voice their stories, but they will get to do it with others who share the same opinion while gaining support from the community. Hashtags for this year’s theme include: #BAD2015, #RaiseYourVoice and #Oct16.
Who can join?
Anyone. Blog Action Day is open to bloggers, social media users, vloggers, podcasters, graphic designers, infographics, web developers, and anyone who has a voice and wishes to share it for a better cause. All you have to do is register your blog before October 16th (it’s free) and post away.
Many bloggers have participated like the White House and the United Nations Environment Programme. If blogging isn’t your cup of tea, there are other ways to participate as well. People can donate, sponsor or promote the theme for that year. You can also choose to volunteer for the cause as well. The main goal of the day is to promote awareness for that issue.
